Deer Season is Over Now What?
With deer hunting season all but over its time to start preparing for next years rut. March is the perfect time to begin evaluating your property for where to place your tree stand over big bucks next year. In March the trees are still bare, and the forest will look a lot like it will in November. You will be able to see shooting lanes, the rubs from the previous year, and deer trails. At this stage of preparation, we at Trophy Tree stands start by looking at aerial maps from Google Earth. We zero in on hollows, thickets, creeks, mountain saddles and benches. We also outline where we believe the deer will bedding and eating.
Next step is getting out there and evaluating what we find. Find bedding sites and make notes of where they are and see where deer trails head from there. These trails will show you where these deer are feeding and the paths, they take to get there. Align this with your aerial imagery and you’re on your way to putting down a monster buck come November. A good sign that a monster buck is around are scrapes on big trees. Calf size and larger and we are in business. Now we can set up some trail cameras to get some eyes in the woods to see what we have walking around.
Keep following us to see what were doing in the hunt for a monster buck in 2020.
